The Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion has also been operating since 1989 as the Israel Opera Orchestra.

During the 31 years that have passed since then, the two musical bodies share an action within the productions of the Israel Opera House, alongside the orchestra's activity as a symphony orchestra.

In July 2018, Maestro Dan Ettinger was appointed the musical director of the orchestra in addition to being the musical director of the Israeli Opera. This step is intended to deepen the cooperation between the bodies and is a refreshing line for the musical activity in Israel. Joint musical management ensures the expansion of the synergy between the symphony orchestra and the Israel Opera, and allows Ettinger to lead joint artistic moves that will contribute to the promotion of the artistic excellence of both institutions.
